Frset vs Tinycast

A menu bar workspace for copied content and screenshots, or a native launcher that searches apps, files, commands, and extensions?

Frset and Tinycast are both native Mac apps with clipboard history, but they are built around different starting points. Frset brings clipboard organization, screenshots, OCR, and content tools into a menu bar workspace. Tinycast is a keyboard launcher for apps, files, commands, and extensions.

Choose by where your work starts

Tinycast is the stronger fit when you want one keyboard launcher for apps, local files, commands, system actions, and Raycast extensions. It can import selected settings from Raycast 2.0 or later, but its official import guide does not describe importing Frset data or Alfred workflows. Most Tinycast features are off until enabled; clipboard history is on by default.

Frset is designed for work that starts with something you copied or see on screen. It organizes clips with tags and notes, and keeps capture, annotation, OCR, translation, and common text utilities close together. It does not replace Tinycast's app launcher, file search, shell commands, or extension ecosystem.

Clipboard, snippets, and privacy

Both apps store clipboard history locally. Tinycast lets you choose retention from one day to forever; its default is three months. Its clipboard history can include images, files, colors, and text, and it can paste sequentially. Frset Free provides access to the most recent 24 hours of ordinary history; a separate seven-day cleanup rule applies. Frset Free also limits tags and notes, while Pro retention follows your settings.

Tinycast keyword expansion is a distinct feature and requires Accessibility permission. Frset notes and saved text are not automatic text expansion. Tinycast says it has no account or telemetry; its optional AI and web search may still use external providers. Frset's clipboard history is local, while online translation, some AI tools, and image compression may process submitted content.

Frset offers screen-area and window capture, annotations, scrolling screenshots, OCR, translation, and pinned references. Screenshot Search is off by default and indexes eligible screenshots created by Frset. Tinycast's Camera command takes a webcam photo to the clipboard; it is not a screen screenshot editor. Tinycast provides more launcher-oriented utilities, including file search, window management, calendar actions, and Raycast extensions. Quicklinks can launch a site search from a URL template; Frset's search bar is designed to hand a query to a chosen search engine or custom URL.

Which one fits?

  • Choose Tinycast for a free, open-source launcher, app and file search, keyboard commands, and Raycast extension support. It requires macOS 26 or later.
  • Choose Frset for clipboard organization, screen capture and OCR, translation, and everyday content tools in a menu bar app.
  • Use both if you want Tinycast to launch and automate while Frset handles screenshots and saved content. Review clipboard recording settings so you know which app stores copied items.
