Alternative
Paste Alternatives for Mac
Identify what you want to change without giving up the part of Paste that your work relies on.
People consider leaving Paste for different reasons: payment preferences, a simpler history tool, a Mac-only routine, or a wish to combine clipboard work with capture and utilities. Decide which one applies before selecting a replacement.
If a subscription is your only concern, check Paste's current options first. Its plan guide now lists a Lifetime purchase alongside monthly and annual plans. A payment change may solve the issue without migrating your collection.
Choose candidates around your actual requirement
Frset for clipboard, capture, and text work on one Mac
Frset is relevant when you organize local copies with tags and aliases, maintain notes, capture screen text, and then translate or process it. The value is bringing related work together. Frset does not promise synced history in this comparison, so it is a narrower replacement for a Paste routine that spans devices.
Maccy for a focused free history tool
Maccy is a candidate when you want an open-source app centered on copied-content retrieval. Choose it because that smaller scope meets your needs. This article does not establish a speed or memory advantage over Paste.
Raycast for history you already have in a launcher
If Raycast is already your command interface, check its included clipboard history before adding another app. The current plan comparison places history in Free, with longer access in Pro. It can be a sensible way to consolidate a launcher routine, but Raycast does not sync Clipboard History.
Alfred for expansion and workflows
Alfred Powerpack fits when repeated text should expand from a typed trigger or when you need custom workflows. Its history is part of the paid feature set, and preferences sync excludes history.
Compare the tradeoffs
| Requirement | Most relevant choice | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a synced Mac, iPhone, and iPad collection | Paste | iCloud settings and the current plan |
| Avoid recurring payment | Paste Lifetime, Frset Lifetime, or Alfred license | Actual checkout terms and included upgrades |
| Use a focused free clipboard app | Maccy | Required content types and organization |
| Pair local history with capture and text tools | Frset | Retention, permissions, and your destination apps |
| Keep clipboard work in a launcher | Raycast or Alfred Powerpack | Existing commands, snippets, and paid requirements |
Paste's pinboards, image-text search, and Paste Stack are meaningful capabilities to preserve if you use them. An alternative should be judged against that routine, not against an outdated description of Paste.
What changes when you move to Frset
You gain a local collection organized with tags, titles, and aliases, plus editable notes and tools for captured or copied content. Frset multi-select can join text items with newlines. This replaces a combined-payload task, not Paste Stack's sequence of individual pastes.
Frset selection OCR can extract screen text. Its Screenshot search feature is disabled by default and covers eligible Frset screenshots, so do not expect every image in a migrated collection to become searchable. Long text search is limited to stored fields rather than a guarantee of complete document indexing.
The free ordinary-history access window is 24 hours, distinct from the seven-day cleanup rule. Free also includes up to three tags and ten notes. Pro follows configurable retention and an optional capacity limit. Frset offers monthly, annual, and Lifetime plans; compare the current purchase options to the features you need.
Frset keeps clipboard history locally, while remote translation and AI services receive submitted content. Apple system translation requires macOS 15 or later, supported languages, and the required language packs. Review translation if that is part of your intended workflow.
A low-risk way to choose
Preserve your original Paste collection and subscription access while evaluating a replacement. Recreate a few pinboard items manually; no direct import or iCloud migration into Frset is assumed. Test image and file pasting, repeated text, and shortcut conflicts in the apps you use. File references need their original paths to remain available.
