Frset vs Alfred

An organized clipboard and capture workspace meets a launcher with a configurable workflow system.

Choose Alfred if launching, search, text expansion, and workflows are central to how you use your Mac. Choose Frset if you want clipboard organization, screenshot OCR, annotation, and everyday content tools together without building an automation workflow.

Alfred's clipboard history belongs to Powerpack. Comparing Frset's clipboard features with only the free Alfred download would miss the version that actually covers that job.

Compare the relevant capabilities

Alfred's Powerpack guide places Clipboard History and Workflows in the paid feature set. Its clipboard guide describes searchable text, images, file links, and conversion of a text clip into a snippet.

Repeated replies and code fragments

Consider a support reply you reuse every week. Frset lets you give it a recognizable title or alias, group it with tags, and maintain text in a note. That favors a collection you browse and select deliberately.

Alfred's snippets suit a different trigger: typing an abbreviation that expands into reusable text. If expansion is the reason you keep Alfred, verify that requirement separately rather than assuming Frset notes replace it. Alfred also documents clipboard merging; Frset can combine selected text items into a newline-separated payload. Neither description should be stretched into automatic multi-field form filling.

Frset search covers stored fields, not a guarantee of full-text indexing for any size of document. Files depend on the original path remaining available, and the destination determines which image or file paste formats it accepts.

Built-in tools or a workflow you control

Frset includes utilities such as translation, summaries, JSON formatting, timestamps, UUIDs, and Base64 or URL encoding. A screen capture can feed OCR and then text processing. This is useful when the operation you need already exists as a built-in tool.

Alfred's workflow system is the more relevant option when you need custom triggers, connected steps, scripts, or app-specific automation. Frset's custom AI prompts do not reproduce that workflow system. If a workflow is essential to your job, keep Alfred until you have evaluated an actual replacement for it.

Frset screenshot OCR uses local Apple Vision recognition. Screenshot search is off by default and indexes eligible Frset screenshots when enabled. Network translation or remote AI receives submitted content; Apple translation needs macOS 15 or later and appropriate language support. The Translation page explains that part of the workflow.

Payment, retention, and preferences sync

Alfred's shop offers a version license and a Mega Supporter license with lifetime upgrades. Frset Pro offers monthly, annual, and Lifetime choices. Compare current terms and what each purchase includes instead of comparing a one-time payment against an assumed subscription.

Frset's free ordinary-history access is 24 hours, separate from its seven-day cleanup rule; Free also permits three tags and ten notes. Pro retention follows your settings and an optional storage limit. Alfred's clipboard guide lists configurable history durations, so choose retention around the content you actually need to recover.

Alfred can sync preferences and snippets using a configured sync service, but its sync guide excludes clipboard history. Frset history is also local in this comparison. Preferences sync is not the same as a synced history collection.

Choose by the job you would lose

Keep Alfred for its launcher, text expansion, and workflows. Try Frset for a local, organized clipboard collection with capture and content processing nearby. If you only need recent-history retrieval, Alfred alternatives includes narrower choices.

Moving a small collection first

No import of Alfred workflows, snippets, or history into Frset is assumed. Preserve the originals, recreate a few useful entries, and assign nonconflicting shortcuts. Set exclusions before collecting sensitive material. Alfred requires enabling clipboard history and granting Accessibility. Frset automatic paste may not be available immediately after a fresh install; when available, enable it and grant Accessibility permission. Success also depends on the destination app. Try your real destinations before moving more.
