Alternative
Alfred Alternatives for Mac
Workflows, typed snippets, and clipboard retrieval are separate jobs. Keep that distinction when choosing.
The right Alfred alternative depends on what you would miss after turning it off. Launching apps is one job; a custom workflow, text expansion, and searchable clipboard history are others. A replacement for one does not necessarily cover the rest.
Alfred's Powerpack includes Clipboard History and Workflows. If you need those features, compare against Powerpack rather than only the free launcher. If your concern is payment, note that Alfred already offers one-time licenses.
Candidates grouped by what you use
Raycast for a command-centered routine
Raycast is a relevant launcher candidate with built-in commands and extensions. Its plan comparison distinguishes free clipboard and core features from paid capabilities. Review the specific extension or command for each Alfred workflow you depend on; similar scope does not guarantee identical behavior.
Frset for a local clipboard and capture workspace
Frset is relevant when the routine starts with copied content or text visible on the screen. Tags, titles, aliases, notes, capture, annotation, and translation can bring those steps together. Its configurable AI tools process content, but do not reproduce Alfred's workflow graph or app-specific automation.
Maccy or Paste for clipboard retrieval and organization
Maccy fits a focused copy-history requirement. Paste is more relevant for a clipboard collection organized in pinboards and available across Apple devices. Neither is recommended here as a complete Alfred launcher replacement.
Vorssaint for selected system tools
Vorssaint offers installable utility modules, including clipboard and system controls. Consider it for the utilities you use from Alfred, then verify each required module and permission. The existence of a toolbox does not establish compatibility with your existing workflows.
Compare by the job you are replacing
| Job | Candidate to try | What remains to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher plus integrations | Raycast | Equivalents for your workflows and paid requirements |
| Clipboard organization and screenshot text work | Frset | Launcher, expansion, and workflow needs outside that scope |
| Focused history retrieval | Maccy | Separate launching and automation tools |
| Saved clipboard collection across Apple devices | Paste | A launcher or workflow system if still needed |
| Selected system utilities | Vorssaint | Exact modules, shortcuts, and permissions |
If your custom workflows already work well, keeping Alfred while changing only clipboard handling may be the lower-effort choice.
When Frset helps
A developer might save a command under a recognizable alias, filter code by tag, capture an error from a screen region, and format a copied JSON fragment. A writer might maintain repeated text in an editable note and translate extracted screen text. These are content operations Frset can bring into one app.
Frset combines selected text items into a newline-separated payload, rather than feeding individual form fields. Search covers stored item fields without guaranteeing a complete index of arbitrarily long documents. Its Screenshot search feature is off by default and applies to eligible Frset-created screenshots.
Alfred's clipboard guide already documents saving text clips as snippets. If typed expansion is essential, test that requirement explicitly rather than treating Frset notes as an equivalent.
Cost, history, and data
Frset's free ordinary-history access covers the latest 24 hours, separate from its seven-day cleanup rule. Free also permits three tags and ten notes. Pro follows configurable retention and an optional capacity limit, with monthly, annual, and Lifetime purchase options. Check the current plans.
Alfred's sync guide excludes clipboard history even when preferences and snippets sync. Raycast also excludes history from Cloud Sync. Frset offers local history here; choose Paste if a synced history collection is the requirement.
Frset remote translation and AI receive submitted content. Apple system translation needs macOS 15 or later and available language support. Data handling should be evaluated for the tool you run, independently of local history storage.
Move the smallest useful part
Keep your Alfred preferences, workflows, and snippets while evaluating a replacement. No direct import into Frset is assumed. Recreate a few useful items, set distinct shortcuts and exclusions, and check pasting in your actual apps. Do not delete a working workflow until its replacement is proven in your routine.
