Maccy Alternatives for Mac
Keep the focused history workflow you like, and identify the extra job a replacement must handle.
Before replacing Maccy, name the problem: too little organization, a collection stranded on one Mac, extra steps after copying text, or a desire to use your existing launcher. Those needs lead to different alternatives.
If searching recent copies and pinning useful items already solves your problem, staying with Maccy is a reasonable decision. Its official site presents it as a focused, local, open-source clipboard app. More features are helpful only when they remove a step you actually repeat.
Alternatives grouped by the missing job
Frset for an organized local workspace
Consider Frset if a mixed collection of code, research links, colors, and repeated replies needs labels you can remember. Tags, titles, aliases, and editable notes provide ways to organize that material. Screen OCR and translation can then help with text that was never selectable in the source app.
This is a local Mac workflow. Frset is not a recommendation for syncing history to an iPhone, and its custom AI prompts do not establish a general extension platform.
Paste for a collection across Apple devices
Paste is the more relevant candidate when your useful items must travel between Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It documents pinboards and device sync. Its privacy policy explains the optional iCloud storage path. Decide whether that solves your need before comparing visual presentation or the number of tools.
Raycast or Alfred when the launcher is already central
Raycast includes clipboard history in its free feature set. If you already use its commands and extensions, evaluate that existing history first. A separate app may be unnecessary.
Alfred Powerpack adds clipboard history, snippets, and workflows to its launcher. It is a relevant option when typed text expansion or custom workflows matter; those are different requirements from browsing a tagged clipboard collection.
A practical comparison
| Your requirement | Candidate to evaluate first | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Search and reuse copies with little setup | Keep Maccy | Focused scope rather than a broader content workspace |
| Tags, aliases, notes, and screen-text processing | Frset | Local history and free-tier access limits |
| Saved content across Apple devices | Paste | Paid plan and optional iCloud data path |
| History alongside launcher commands | Raycast | A broader command environment |
| Snippet expansion and custom workflows | Alfred Powerpack | Paid feature set and workflow setup |
These are recommendations by job, not speed or memory rankings. Raycast Cloud Sync excludes Clipboard History; Alfred's preferences sync also excludes history. Do not substitute settings sync for the cross-device collection requirement.
Where Frset is a useful step up
A concrete Frset routine might begin with a screenshot of an error, continue with selection OCR, and finish with a stored note or a translation. Another might involve selecting several text fragments and copying them as one newline-separated payload. This batch action does not paste a sequence into different fields.
Frset's Screenshot search feature is off by default. When enabled, it indexes eligible screenshots created by Frset rather than every copied image. Search also covers stored item fields; unlimited full-text indexing of arbitrary documents is not promised.
Free access to ordinary history covers the latest 24 hours; free cleanup uses a separate seven-day rule. Pro retention follows your settings and an optional storage cap. Review Frset's plans if old-history retrieval is the reason you are switching.
Choose without moving everything at once
Write down three recurring jobs and select the app that meets all three. Keep your original Maccy data, recreate a small collection, use distinct shortcuts, and check pasting in your normal apps. No direct history import into Frset is assumed. Configure exclusions before collecting sensitive content.
