How to Exclude Apps from Clipboard History on Mac
Choose which apps Frset ignores, pause recording for mixed tasks, and review older history separately. Exclusions apply to future copies from matching sources.
To stop selected apps from entering Frset's clipboard history, add them to Ignore App in settings. This limits future recording from matching source apps. It does not erase older entries, remove the current system clipboard content, or change how another clipboard tool records copies.
Choose the source apps you want to exclude
App exclusions are useful when you routinely copy content from a particular app that you do not want in history. Consider the actual source of the copy: a password manager, a dedicated work app, or a browser may each be a separate source.
A rule for one app does not automatically cover the same information copied somewhere else. For example, excluding a password manager does not turn a later copy from a browser into a password-manager copy. Excluding a browser can also remove useful everyday browser copies from your history. Choose rules that fit your workflow rather than assuming the list recognizes every kind of sensitive text.
Add an app to Frset's ignored list
- Open Frset's settings and find Ignore App in the general settings.
- Choose Edit to open the app list.
- Choose Add App, then select the application you want to exclude.
- Check that the intended app appears in the list and choose Done.
- In that source app, copy a harmless test phrase that you can recognize.
- Check Frset's history to confirm that this new copy was not added.
Use non-sensitive text for the test. Also copy a different harmless phrase from an app that is not excluded, so you can check that recording still works for sources you want to keep.
Frset matches exclusions to the source app's identifier. This is an app-level recording rule, not a filter for particular websites, private browser tabs, or words. If you need a break across several apps, pause clipboard recording for the task instead.
Pause recording for a temporary task
When sensitive work moves between apps, a temporary pause can be more practical than expanding the excluded list. Pause recording before the copies you do not want saved, then resume it when you are ready to keep new copies again.
Pausing Frset affects its recording. You can still use the system clipboard to copy and paste, and another history app may still record content. Check the controls of each tool you actually use, including the built-in clipboard history on supported macOS versions. Apple's Spotlight clipboard guide describes its own history controls.
Review older history separately
Adding an exclusion does not retroactively delete content already recorded. Search for older entries you no longer want and delete them, or use Frset's history-clearing settings when you intend to clear more broadly.
Check the scope before clearing: an item you still need may be mixed with the content you want to remove. Keep deliberate copies of important notes elsewhere. Retention and storage limits can reduce how much history remains, but they are different controls from choosing which apps may record new entries.
Local history still needs recording controls
Frset stores clipboard history locally on your Mac. A local history is still a stored copy of the information it contains; local storage alone does not make every copied passage suitable to retain.
Optional translation and AI features have separate data flows, and remote services receive submitted text. See the Privacy Policy for those boundaries. To review ordinary history search and reuse, continue with clipboard history on Mac or Frset's Clipboard Manager.
